Chapter 3: Minting, Transferring, and Edicts

Open Mint and Its Terms

The open mint feature allows for the creation of new rune units under predefined terms, such as start and end heights, and caps on the minting amount. These terms dictate the conditions under which minting is permissible, ensuring control over the rune's supply.

Rune Transactions

Runes are transferred through transactions that adhere to the protocol's rules. The inclusion of runes in transaction inputs, combined with the strategic use of runestones, defines how runes are allocated across transaction outputs. This mechanism includes the processing of edicts and the allocation of unassigned runes, ensuring fluidity and efficiency in rune transactions.

Burning and Cenotaphs

Runes can be intentionally removed from circulation through a process called burning, which transfers them to an unusable state. Additionally, malformed runestones, known as cenotaphs, result in the burning of associated runes, acting as a safeguard against errors and misuse.
